Source Weekly Member Drive!

June 17- 30

Join us for our Source Weekly Member Drive from June 17th to 30th!

Membership plays a crucial role in our new model for local investigative journalism, and we’re excited to kick off our first-ever membership drive as part of our Lay It Out Foundation, our new nonprofit initiative.

As we strive to expand our impact, we’re counting on your support. The more members we have, the greater the positive change we can effect. By joining our community, you’re not just subscribing to quality journalism; you’re actively contributing to the sustainability and growth of our efforts.

Your involvement enables us to dive deep into the pressing issues and topics that matter most to Central Oregon. And as a token of our appreciation, on July 1st, we’ll be holding a special drawing for VIP tickets to this year’s eagerly anticipated Theater In The Park production of MAMMA MIA! Members who join at the $10/monthly level or higher between June 17th and 30th will automatically be entered into the drawing. Plus, we’ll draw a set of 2 tickets for current members at any level.

Meet The Team: Reporter Jennifer Baires

I am thrilled to join the Lay It Out Events Foundation and Source Weekly team as an investigative reporter and features writer, and to bring my background in deep-dive reporting to coverage in Central Oregon.

Since graduating from UC Berkeley with a Master’s in Journalism, where I focused on investigative reporting and long-form writing, I have had the opportunity to cover a wide range of stories from breaking news in the San Francisco Bay Area to year-long investigations as a freelance journalist in Austin, Texas.

Over this last decade, the constant has been my passion for deeply researched pieces, digging into data to find untold stories and highlighting people and communities often overlooked by traditional media sources. I am grateful for the chance to produce those stories here; in a city my family and I have adopted as home. Being an invested citizen in the community you’re covering can be tricky, but I’ve found that it makes for stronger stories and welcomed accountability – just as I hope the work we do will hold others, and institutions, to account.

While you can never be certain which stories will land – reporting can feel like pulling endless threads at times – I am pursuing pieces related to public safety; access to clean water, clear air, and safe roads as well as following money and influence in our region.

Thank you for supporting this type of work, and please keep the tips coming!
